Superbrands Lanka is a part of the Superbrands organisation which is acclaimed worldwide as being an independent authority and arbiter of branding excellence and is committed to paying tribute to exceptional brands and promoting the discipline of branding. The work we do at Superbrands is recognised through our books, events and awards programmes, internet sites, and through significant international media and PR coverage in newspapers, magazines and electronic media.
The Superbrands Council in each country is comprised of individuals who have shown exceptional aptitude in business and who have a thorough knowledge of that particular country's markets and methods of business. The Superbrands Council members are asked to score brands from a master list (we list all brands available in the country that are widely available) and the scoring is tabulated to result in the top scoring brands being designated as Superbrands.
The Superbrands Council scores each brand against the criteria of the definition of a Superbrand - "A Superbrand offers consumers significant emotional and/or physical advantages over its competitors which (consciously or subconsciously) consumers want, recognize and are willing to pay a premium for".
To be voted as a Superbrand by our independent Council is a powerful endorsement and evidence for existing customers, potential customers, the media, suppliers, investors and employees of each brand's exceptional status.
The launch of the inaugural Consumer Superbrand programme in Sri Lanka was a great success. We had 50 brands in this programme which featured product and service B2C brands across categories. They were officially awarded the Superbrands status at a Tribute Event in March 2007 where we also launched the first ever Superbrands Sri Lanka publication. The programme has been so successful that we have received numerous requests from many more brands to join the programme. The next Consumer Superbrands program will be take place in 2009.
On the back of its successful launch of the inaugural Consumer Superbrands, its B2B counterpart, Business Superbrands was launched.
Business Superbrands are those brands which are primarily involved in business to business marketing which have excelled in their specialized fields of business. By excelling in their fields, they have established very strong customer relationships which leads to long term value creation for the business.
It is these truly exceptional businesses that are being recognized. Most of these businesses have toiled for many years before they have achieved this level of success. It is these stories which are expected to be captured in the
Business Superbrand publication.
The main aspects looked at when judging a brand are QUALITY, RELIABILITY & TRUST, DISTINCTION, REPUTATION & PRESTIGE. Hence in order to be considered for the Superbrands status, a brand would need to have excelled in these aspects leading to consumer /customer trust & confidence and consistency in delivering its promise.
The top scoring brands in line with the above were invited to participate in the program and following this an elite list of 32 Business Superbrands are being featured in the publication that is to be launched in August 2008 at a gala Tribute Event.
